Our take
What does Ange ou Démon smell like?
Givenchy launched Ange ou Démon in 2006, composed by Jean-Pierre Béthouart and Olivier Cresp. The name promises a clash and the opening delivers one. Saffron brings a leathery, metallic note while thyme adds the bitterness of dried herbs. Mandarin lets in a little light. For a women's perfume of that era, it is a surprisingly aromatic start. Then the heart turns soft. Lily and ylang-ylang make a creamy, almost oily bouquet that orchid nudges toward vanilla. The base carries on with vanilla and tonka bean, but oakmoss and rosewood stop it from becoming dessert. What stays is blond wood and warm powder. The heavy faceted bottle announces an evening perfume, and that is exactly what this is.
When to wear it
Save it for winter evenings and special occasions. One or two sprays is enough, since saffron and vanilla both carry.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Ange ou Démon is one of 48 creations by Givenchy in our encyclopedia.
