Our take
What does Boucheron (femme) smell like?
In 1988 the Place Vendôme jeweler launched its first perfume for women. Francis Deleamont and Jean-Pierre Bethouart composed it, and it came in a ring-shaped bottle. It is an amber floral in the grand late-1980s tradition. The opening is already loaded. Marigold, orange blossom and apricot come through, with green galbanum and citrus. The heart is an armful of white and yellow flowers: tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine and narcissus. Iris and geranium add a powdery note. The base is rich. Amber, sandalwood and benzoin mix with a little vanilla and oakmoss. Civet brings a clearly animal warmth. It often gets compared with Dior's Poison, released three years earlier, but Boucheron is sunnier and less dark. You need confidence to wear it. Few launches of the late 1980s were this unapologetically floral. The eau de parfum described here is warmer than the eau de toilette.
When to wear it
