Why the season matters
In spring, mild temperatures give most materials an ideal stage. Skin is neither cold nor damp: a perfume diffuses without exploding, and the heart notes, often floral, have time to unfold. It is the season of fresh flowers such as lily of the valley, peony, freesia and orange blossom, and of green notes such as galbanum, violet leaf and cut grass, which echo the budding vegetation. Iris and violet, powdery and slightly cool, also find their best moment. Citrus and light chypres suit mornings that are still crisp. In our selection, florals such as Miss Dior, Daisy and Chance Eau Tendre, and greens such as N°19, illustrate this register well. By contrast, very dense ambers or heavy gourmands can feel out of place when nature itself is getting lighter.
