Why the season matters
In cold weather, molecules evaporate more slowly. A citrus or a marine note, already fleeting, becomes almost imperceptible, while an amber or a gourmand, too heavy in summer, finds an ideal balance. Vanilla, benzoin, labdanum, incense and oud unfold gradually, carried by body heat under layers of clothing. Warm spices such as cinnamon, clove and nutmeg reinforce the feeling of comfort. Textures can be thicker, darker and sweeter. Extraits and eaux de parfum, more concentrated, are particularly well suited. In our selection, Shalimar, Opium, Angel, Tobacco Vanille, By the Fireplace and Oud Wood embody this register well. Wool and cashmere also hold scent: a spray on a scarf extends the trail well into the evening. A little goes a long way in heated rooms.
