How to play Perfumdle: strategy guide
All tips to guess the perfume of the day in minimum tries
Game rules
Perfumdle is a daily game inspired by Wordle, adapted to the world of perfumery. Your goal: <strong>guess the mystery perfume of the day in maximum 8 tries</strong>.
How does it work?
- Search for a perfume in the list of 150 available perfumes
- After each attempt, 5 attributes are compared:
- House : The brand (Dior, Chanel, Guerlain...)
- Year : The creation date of the perfume
- Gender : Feminine, Masculine or Unisex
- Olfactory family : Floral, Oriental, Woody, etc.
- Concentration : Perfume, EDP, EDT or EDC
- Boxes are colored according to the accuracy of your answer:
- Green : Correct attribute!
- Yellow : Close (for year: ±10 years)
- Gray : Wrong
- Use clues to refine your next attempts
Winning strategies
1. First try: maximize information
The first try is crucial. The goal is not to guess right away, but to <strong>get maximum information</strong>. Here are the criteria for a good first choice:
- Popular house : Dior leads with 40 perfumes in the game, followed by Dior (15) and Tom Ford (14)
- Median year : Choose a perfume from 2000-2010 to get direction clues (older ↓ or newer ↑)
- Gender : Feminine perfumes are the majority (130), but starting with a masculine (88) or unisex (89) can be strategic
<strong>Recommended first tries:</strong>
- Bleu de Chanel (2010, Masculine, Woody Aromatic, EDP) - Excellent coverage
- J'adore (1999, Feminine, Floral, EDP) - Dior house, pivot year
- Sauvage (2015, Masculine, Aromatic Fougère, EDT) - Recent bestseller
2. Use year clues
Year is the attribute that gives the most information thanks to the <strong>yellow</strong> code (±10 years). If you get yellow on the year, you know the mystery perfume is within a 20-year range!
<strong>Distribution by decade in Perfumdle:</strong>
| Period | Number of perfumes | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 1880-1950 | 14 | Jicky, N°5, Mitsouko |

| 1980-2000 | 37 | Poison, Angel, CK One |
| 2000-2010 | 66 | Coco Mademoiselle, Flowerbomb, 1 Million |
| 2010-2026 | 180 | Sauvage, Baccarat Rouge 540, La Vie Est Belle |
3. Cross families and genders
Some family/gender combinations are very common, others rare. Use this knowledge:
- Florals : Mostly feminine (N°5, J'adore, Flowerbomb)
- Fougère : Almost exclusively masculine (Azzaro Pour Homme, Le Mâle)
- Woody : Balanced, often modern unisex (Santal 33, Oud Wood)
- Orientals : Mixed, classic feminine (Shalimar) or unisex (Black Orchid)
4. Houses and specialties
Each house has its strengths. Knowing these trends can help you:
| House | Perfumes in game | Specialties |
|---|---|---|
| Parfums de Marly | 40 | |
| Dior | 15 | Balanced: classics and modern, feminine and masculine |
| Tom Ford | 14 | Unisex luxury (Oud Wood, Tobacco Vanille, Black Orchid) |
| Chanel | 13 | Iconic feminine (N°5, Coco Mademoiselle) and masculine (Bleu) |
| Yves Saint Laurent | 12 | Striking orientals (Opium) and bestsellers (Black Opium) |
Advanced tips
Use the process of elimination
After 3-4 tries, you should have eliminated several possibilities. Note mentally:
- Houses already tested (gray)
- The possible year range
- The gender confirmed or eliminated
- The families ruled out
Know the iconic perfumes
Some perfumes are so famous they come up often. Familiarize yourself with:
- Classics pre-2000: N°5, Shalimar, Opium, Poison
- 2000s bestsellers: Coco Mademoiselle, Flowerbomb, 1 Million
- Modern 2010+: Sauvage, Baccarat Rouge 540, La Vie Est Belle
Manage your time
You have 8 tries, use them wisely:
- Tries 1-3: Broad exploration (different houses, years, genders)
- Tries 4-6: Refine with obtained clues
- Tries 7-8: Targeted attempts on final possibilities
