The story of Sol de Janeiro
Heela Yang, Marc Capra and Camila Pierotti launched Sol de Janeiro in summer 2015 with just three products, inspired by the lifestyle of Brazil's beaches and its celebration of the body. The Brazilian Bum Bum Cream quickly became the hero product, carried by its gourmand pistachio and salted caramel scent, named Cheirosa 62. In Brazilian Portuguese, cheirosa describes someone who smells good. The scent, later released as a body mist and in other formats, became the brand's true signature. Driven by social media and word of mouth, Sol de Janeiro grew spectacularly and widened its range with several other Cheirosas, each built around a different mood. In 2021 the L'Occitane group took a majority stake in the company, which has continued to expand internationally and remains one of the best-known names in scented body care.
An olfactory signature
Sol Cheirosa 62, the brand's only entry in our database, sums up the Sol de Janeiro style: a sunny, gourmand amber. Pistachio and almond open onto a heart of heliotrope and jasmine, before a base of caramel, salted caramel, vanilla and sandalwood. The effect recalls warm skin in the sun, creamy and sweet, with a salty touch that keeps it from cloying. It is a feel-good scent, playful, comforting and unapologetically cheerful.
Which Sol de Janeiro perfume to choose?
Sol Cheirosa 62 is the only Sol de Janeiro scent in our database. Choose it if you love bright gourmands of pistachio, almond and salted caramel, and fragrances that evoke summer and the beach. It layers easily with the brand's body products in the same scent, which boosts longevity and trail throughout the day.
