Our take
What does Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée smell like?
February 2020 saw Givenchy launch Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée. Olivier Cresp and Nathalie Lorson took the 2017 Gentleman somewhere darker. Black pepper opens with coriander and a minty geranium. It is dry, spicy and masculine in the classic sense. The heart holds the best surprise. The iris of the Gentleman line meets a cocoa pod, bitter and powdery, over cedar. Think dark chocolate rather than dessert. Sandalwood, patchouli and a burning woods accord make up the base and add smoke. The 2018 Gentleman eau de parfum leans on lavender and balsams, with more sweetness. Boisée is drier and woodier. Dior Homme comes to mind for the iris and cocoa pairing, with less lipstick. Longevity is good and projection stays measured, so it never crowds a meeting room or a dinner table.
