Our take
What does Voyage smell like?
Nautica launched Voyage in 2006 and handed the formula to Maurice Roucel, the nose behind Musc Ravageur for Frédéric Malle. The result is a low-priced aquatic for men that has stayed on shelves ever since. The opening leans on green apple and green leaves, crisp and a touch sour. Lotus and mimosa follow. The first gives the watery effect. The second adds a powdery softness that rounds off the edges, and Nautica even talks about a sailcloth accord. Musk, cedar and oakmoss make up the base, with a hint of amber. The drydown stays clean and slightly woody, with nothing salty or truly marine about it. Next to Davidoff's Cool Water, Voyage is fruitier and less herbal, with no mint or lavender. Longevity is modest, which fits the price. Few designer aquatics have aged this well at this price point.
