What does Polo Red Extreme smell like?
Ralph Lauren launched Polo Red Extreme in March 2017 as an eau de parfum. Olivier Gillotin, who did the first two Polo Reds, signed this one too. It opens on a blood orange accord with red ginger and a pineapple note. It's juicy and fairly sweet with a spicy prickle. The heart changes the mood. Black coffee essence takes charge, backed by saffron and sage. You go from fruit punch to an espresso cup. The base brings an ebony wood accord, ambery woods and cocoa absolute. It smells of dark wood and bitter chocolate more than vanilla. Compared with the fresher and more aromatic Polo Red of 2013, Extreme is clearly a night scent. One warning: Ralph Lauren now sells a different eau de parfum Extreme built on ginger and leather, and that is not this one.
When to wear it
A winter evening scent for dinner or a night out. Two sprays are enough because the coffee spreads fast.
