Our take
What does Dolce Rosa Excelsa smell like?
Dolce Rosa Excelsa appeared in 2016 as a rose take on Dolce, the white floral launched two years earlier. The opening is the same: papaya flower and neroli, milky and slightly fruity. The heart keeps the original’s white amaryllis, narcissus and water lily. Turkish rose moves in and takes over. It stays fresh and a little powdery, nothing like the jammy roses of oriental perfumes. Cashmeran and sandalwood sit on soft musk at the base for a clean, lightly spiced trail. Compared with Dolce, Rosa Excelsa feels denser and more romantic. It is also less original, since the rose ends up hiding the white flowers that made the first one charming. It lasts about six hours, which is good for this style. The rose here is closer to fresh petals than to jam or liqueur.
