Our take
What does Le Beau smell like?
Jean Paul Gaultier gave Le Male a summer sibling in 2019. Le Beau keeps the house’s torso bottle, and Sonia Constant and Quentin Bisch built the formula around just three published notes. Bergamot opens loud and juicy, with a bitter edge. Then comes the main idea: coconut wood, closer to the fibrous husk than to sunscreen. It is milky and a little dry, like a nut just cracked open. Tonka finishes the job gently with its almond and hay facets. The structure is short and easy to read in one go. Nothing here smells of a beach bar. It suggests warm skin after a day by the sea rather than a tropical cocktail, and that is what sets it apart from the sweeter men’s gourmands of the period.
When to wear it
Summer weekends and warm evenings on a terrace. Use three or four sprays and top up in the afternoon.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Le Beau is one of 14 creations by Jean Paul Gaultier in our encyclopedia.
