Our take
What does Fusion d'Issey Extrême smell like?
Issey Miyake released Fusion d’Issey Extrême in 2021, a year after Fusion d’Issey. Master perfumer Nathalie Lorson composed this eau de toilette intense. The brand describes it as spicy woods and a solar fougère, built around a mineral accord meant to evoke volcanic rock. Bergamot and cardamom open the show. The spice is cool and almost lemony, and it adds relief right away. In the heart, peppermint brings a sharp chill. Lavender and a touch of coconut soften it. Then comes the line’s signature, a mineral note that smells like hot stone after rain. The base stays simple and fairly dry with sandalwood and patchouli. Compared with L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme, which is more aquatic and citrusy, this one runs warmer and spicier. The coconut stays in the background yet clearly rounds off the drydown.
When to wear it
Wear it in spring or autumn, day or night, over a T-shirt or a linen shirt. Three sprays give solid presence for a few hours.
