Our take
What does Yuzu Fou smell like?
Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, the founder of Parfum d'Empire, composed Yuzu Fou around 2008. His inspiration wasn't the Japan of Zen gardens but the modern one. He pointed to electronic music, manga, neon and crowded cities. The opening is a shot of vitamin C. Yuzu leads, helped by bitter orange and a sweeter kumquat. Fresh mint adds a sting. In the heart lemon verbena takes on an almost metallic edge. Green bamboo and cedar bring a bit of nature into all that concrete. The base stays light, with tender neroli and white musk carrying the freshness further. That's where Yuzu Fou surprises: the citrus hangs on far longer than usual. Next to Dior's Eau Sauvage, the famous 1966 citrus, it feels sharper and more modern. It also skips the moss and vetiver base of the classic.
When to wear it
A spring and summer citrus for the office or a day in town. Four sprays are fine since it never gets pushy.
It belongs to the Citrus, Aromatic family. Yuzu Fou is one of 7 creations by Parfum d'Empire in our encyclopedia.
