Our take
What does Corsica Furiosa smell like?
Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, who founded Parfum d'Empire, is Corsican. In 2014 he dedicated a scent to the island's interior with Corsica Furiosa. The subject is lentisk, an evergreen shrub of the maquis. It appears in three forms here: an essence, an absolute and an extract, which the house presented as a first. The opening is green, resinous and a little boozy. A splash of eau-de-vie and nepita, the local wild mint, whip at the nose. The heart adds tomato leaf and pepper. You can almost feel a stem crushed between your fingers, with its near-bitter sap. The base sinks into cistus and oakmoss, which bring the dry heat of scorched earth. The green never really lets go, and some critics found it monolithic for that reason. Compared with Dior's Eau Sauvage, another aromatic classic, Corsica Furiosa is far wilder and much less lemony.
When to wear it
For summer, hikes or weekends, ideally outdoors. Two sprays are enough because it carries a long way.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Corsica Furiosa is one of 7 creations by Parfum d'Empire in our encyclopedia.
