Our take
What does Eau de Rochas Fraîche smell like?
In 2010 Rochas marked forty years of Eau de Rochas, the 1970 citrus by Nicolas Mamounas. In-house perfumer Jean-Michel Duriez created this Fraîche version as an eau de toilette for the anniversary. Bergamot and lemon open with a sharp and fizzy zest. White flowers and iris take over fairly quickly. From there the scent turns soapy, like skin just out of the shower. The base keeps the oakmoss of the original. It adds liatrix, a plant with a hay and coumarin character, plus a clean musk that stretches the drydown. It stays a citrus aromatic throughout, softer than it is green. On skin it does not last long, but it leaves a pleasant trace of fine soap behind. It is a scent for people who find the original too sharp. Compared with the 1970 Eau de Rochas, the Fraîche version loses some of the green chypre bite and gains a soft powdery feel.
When to wear it
Great for summer mornings or the office. Spray it generously on the neck and arms, then expect to reapply in the early afternoon.
