Our take
What does Les Cascades de Rochas Éclat d'Agrumes smell like?
Rochas launched Les Cascades de Rochas Éclat d'Agrumes in 2012. In-house perfumer Jean-Michel Duriez built it as a summer splash inspired by Paris fountains and a trip through Sicily. The opening is the best part. Bergamot and mandarin fizz, and Sichuan pepper adds a near-electric tingle. Then the fruit takes over. Pineapple and mango arrive with white flowers, and the scent becomes juicier than it is fresh. The base settles for clean musk and a green accord. Not much remains after two hours. Next to Eau de Rochas, the house's classic citrus from 1970, Éclat d'Agrumes is sweeter and younger. It has less moss and less depth. Treat it as a holiday splash rather than a collector's bottle. The pepper deserved a stronger base to hold on to, and that's the real missed chance here.
