Our take
What does Neroli Portofino Forte smell like?
In 2016 Tom Ford flanked its Neroli Portofino with two new versions, a lighter Acqua and this richer Forte. It joined the Private Blend collection as an eau de parfum. The opening keeps the original’s citrus, but a touch of cumin dries it out and adds a spicy edge. It surprises, and you will either like it or not. The heart is waxier than in classic Neroli Portofino. Neroli and orange blossom thicken until they recall a scented candle. The base is the real news, with supple leather, woods and soft musk. Think of leather soaked in neroli and dried in the sun. Neroli Portofino smells of white linen and cologne, while Forte changes into evening wear. It is not stronger, though. Longevity is close to the original, and the price climbs a lot.
When to wear it
For summer evenings and early autumn. Two sprays on a shirt, where the leather lasts longer than on skin.
It belongs to the Woody, Citrus family. Neroli Portofino Forte is one of 33 creations by Tom Ford in our encyclopedia.
