Our take
What does La Diva smell like?
Ungaro unveiled La Diva on 26 January 2016 at the Petit Palais, during the party for the house's fiftieth anniversary. Model Charlotte Free was at the event. The diamond-shaped bottle suggests a draped silhouette and carries the house's black and white dots. The name nods to Diva, Ungaro's first perfume from 1983, but the style is completely different. The opening is fruity and juicy, with pear, raspberry and a pinch of pink pepper. Quince adds a stewed-fruit note to the heart, then gardenia and jasmine build a rather creamy white bouquet. The base is more surprising. Honey brings a slightly waxy warmth, vanilla softens it and patchouli faintly recalls a chypre frame. Next to the darker floral chypre that was the 1983 Diva, La Diva feels light and very sweet. It is a fruity floral of its time, pleasant but short on mystery.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and autumn that suits a relaxed date. Two sprays are enough since the honey grows with body heat.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. La Diva is one of 3 creations by Ungaro in our encyclopedia.
