Our take
What does Black Opium Floral Shock smell like?
Black Opium Floral Shock came out in 2017 with the team behind the 2014 original. Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne and Olivier Cresp are back alongside Honorine Blanc. The idea is simple. Keep the coffee and let in some light. The opening is fruity and fresh. Juicy pear mixes with freesia, bergamot and lemon. Gardenia and orange blossom fill the heart, carried by what the brand calls a solar floral accord. It isn't a beach scent. Think of a terrace late in the afternoon. Iced coffee returns in the base, less roasted than in Black Opium, lightened by white musk and a mineral accord. It lasts well for a summer flanker. Compared with the darker and more vanilla-heavy original, Floral Shock is lighter and more summery. Fans of the first one will feel at home.
