The story of Miu Miu
Miuccia Prada created Miu Miu in 1993. The name comes from her childhood nickname. The label is her playground, with younger cuts and a taste for the off-kilter. It shows in Paris. The first perfume only came in summer 2015, developed under a Coty licence. Daniela Andrier, already Prada's house perfumer, composed it. L'Eau Bleue arrived next as a fresher eau de parfum interpretation. Sources disagree on whether it launched in late 2016 or early 2017. In February 2024 Miu Miu signed a worldwide beauty licence with L'Oréal. The fragrance line then entered a new phase.
An olfactory signature
The first Miu Miu rests on a clear lily of the valley over a modern woody base. It is a clean floral without excess sugar, a break from the gourmands of its time. L'Eau Bleue keeps that flower and makes it greener. Think of a cut stem, or cold water in a vase. The base stays light. Daniela Andrier likes transparent, slightly ironic scents, and it shows here too. Miu Miu is not after power. It wants the freshness of one well-chosen material.
Which Miu Miu perfume to choose?
L'Eau Bleue suits fans of lily of the valley and green florals with no gourmand side. It works in spring and fits the office. If you want a little more roundness, try the first Miu Miu, which is woodier. Wear time is average for an eau de parfum, so reapply at midday. It is still around, but distribution has slowed.
