The story of Chloé

Born in Alexandria and settled in Paris, Gaby Aghion founded Chloé in 1952 with what was then a new idea: high-quality clothes ready to wear, freer than haute couture. The house worked with young designers, among them Karl Lagerfeld, who created many of its collections from the 1960s onwards. Its first fragrance, simply called Chloé, arrived in 1975 and was built around tuberose. Several more followed over the decades, until the 2008 launch of Chloé Eau de Parfum, which redefined the house's olfactory identity. With its ribbed bottle tied with a ribbon bow and its fresh, powdery rose accord, it became one of the most popular florals of its generation and has since been reinterpreted in many variations, each keeping the same light, feminine spirit.

An olfactory signature

The Chloé signature is a pale, fresh, powdery rose, far from the heady roses of the past. Chloé Eau de Parfum opens on peony, freesia and lychee, a fruity and airy freshness. The heart of rose, lily of the valley and magnolia forms a clean, bright bouquet. A base of cedar, amber and musk leaves a soft skin trail, almost like fine soap. It is an elegant powdery floral with no sugar and no heaviness, designed to feel effortless.

Which Chloé perfume to choose?

In our database Chloé is represented by Chloé Eau de Parfum, launched in 2008. It is an ideal pick if you like rose in a modern, powdery form, suited to the office, daytime and dressy occasions without excess. If you prefer a greener, more vintage floral, compare it with Cacharel Anaïs Anaïs; for something muskier, with Narciso Rodriguez for Her.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most famous Chloé perfume?

Chloé Eau de Parfum, launched in 2008, is today the house's emblematic fragrance. Its ribbon-tied bottle and its accord of fresh rose, peony and lychee over a musky base won over a very wide audience. The first Chloé perfume, released in 1975, was centred on tuberose instead.

Does Chloé Eau de Parfum smell of rose?

Yes, rose is its heart, but a light, powdery rose rather than an opulent one. It is surrounded by lily of the valley and magnolia and preceded by peony, freesia and lychee. The cedar, amber and musk base gives it a soft, clean finish that sits close to the skin.

Is Chloé Eau de Parfum suitable for the office?

Yes. Its powdery floral stays bright and controlled, with no gourmand notes or strong spices, which makes it a well-liked daytime scent in professional settings. One or two sprays give an elegant trail that will not bother the people around you.
