Our take
What does Higher Energy smell like?
Higher Energy arrived in 2003, two years after Higher, the sporty men's scent Dior had launched in 2001. The brief was simple: a brisker, woodier version. Juniper berry and grapefruit open with a juicy bitterness that verges on sharp. Dior also stresses pepper, which gives the start some bite. The heart is more curious than it first seems. Nutmeg meets a touch of incense and a pale pear, which pulls the scent toward a slightly smoky freshness. Sandalwood, vetiver and white musk make up the base. Vetiver rules the finish with its smell of dry root, clean and a little earthy. The musk softens the corners without adding weight. Compared with Acqua di Giò, the benchmark men's fresh of that era, Higher Energy is less aquatic and more aromatic. It still smells very early 2000s, which nostalgic wearers will enjoy.
When to wear it
For spring and summer, during the day or at the office. Three sprays in the morning, since it never shouts.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Higher Energy is one of 56 creations by Dior in our encyclopedia.
