Our take
What does Higher smell like?
In 2001 Dior was chasing men who ran rather than men who smoked cigars. Higher, an eau de toilette by Olivier Gillotin and Olivier Pescheux, arrived with a very sporty campaign. It opens on pear, basil and lemon. The pear leads. It is green and almost crunchy, and the basil gives it the feel of a summer kitchen. Rosemary and cypress bring air to the heart while pepper and cardamom prickle a little. The base stays light, just dry cedar and very clean white musk. No leather and no heavy amber. Next to Fahrenheit, its older sibling at Dior, Higher feels nearly transparent. It vanished from shelves for years and has since returned in the Dioriginals line, reworked by Francis Kurkdjian. The original smells very early 2000s. Some will smile at that and others will run.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer, ideal after the gym or at the office. Four sprays is not overdoing it because it fades fairly quickly.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Higher is one of 56 creations by Dior in our encyclopedia.
