Our take
What does Acqua di Giò Profondo Lights smell like?
Giorgio Armani released Acqua di Giò Profondo Lights in summer 2021 as a limited edition eau de parfum spun off from Profondo, launched the year before. Alberto Morillas, who wrote the 1996 Acqua di Giò, stayed in charge. The opening is brisk. Green mandarin brings a slightly bitter zest, cardamom a peppery coolness, and the marine accord smells of salty air. The heart smells like Mediterranean scrub at the water's edge. Rosemary and balsam fir meet cypress, mastic and lavender. The base is more familiar, with vetiver, cedar and patchouli in a modern woody amber. Next to Profondo, Lights keeps the same frame but feels lighter and more herbal, with less of the mineral side. Mind the name, though. It never existed as an eau de toilette, only as this eau de parfum.
