Our take
What does Gentleman Eau de Toilette Intense smell like?
In 2021 Givenchy turned its 2017 Gentleman Eau de Toilette into an Intense version. Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp share the credit. Bergamot, cardamom and basil open it. It's green and minty, and a little predictable. You've smelled this kind of start in a dozen department-store bottles. The surprise comes after half an hour. Blue iris takes over with cypress and gives the scent a powdery, faintly musky texture that's the real reason to wear it. Cedar and coumarin form the base, with that dry-hay and almond smell found in fougères. The wood warms up slowly on skin and never weighs things down, even late in the day. Next to Dior Homme, another famous men's iris, it's more aromatic and has far less chocolate. Some reviewers get around four hours of wear. That's short for something labeled intense.
When to wear it
Ideal for the office and daytime, though it can turn cloying if overapplied in summer. Two sprays will do.
It belongs to the Floral, Aromatic family. Gentleman Eau de Toilette Intense is one of 40 creations by Givenchy in our encyclopedia.
