Our take
What does Pure Poison smell like?
Dior launched Pure Poison in 2004. After the purple Poison of 1985 and Hypnotic Poison, it was the first white edition in the family. Three perfumers signed it: Carlos Benaim, Dominique Ropion and Olivier Polge. Citrus opens with bergamot, mandarin and orange. It doesn't last. Jasmine and orange blossom settle in quickly next to a creamy gardenia. The heart smells of bright white flowers with a sunny glow, and none of the animalic indole you might fear. The base is where it shines. Sandalwood, amber and white musk build a clean, warm skin that stays on a sweater for hours. Compared with the original Poison, spicy and fruity, Pure Poison feels well behaved. Next to J'adore, released five years earlier, it is muskier and less fruity. Dior followed it in 2006 with an Elixir version enriched with cocoa bean absolute.
When to wear it
It goes from office to dinner without changing personality. Three sprays do it: one on the nape and two on the wrists.
It belongs to the Floral family. Pure Poison is one of 56 creations by Dior in our encyclopedia.
