Our take
What does 24 Faubourg smell like?
Hermès launched 24 Faubourg in 1995 and named it after its flagship address on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Maurice Roucel composed it. The opening mixes hyacinth, orange and bergamot with a fuzzy peach and an already sunny ylang-ylang. It glows from the first second. The heart is all white flowers: orange blossom, gardenia and jasmine, held together by an iris that lays down a powdery veil. Hermès describes an iris and wood heart, which is fair. Then the base drifts toward amber. Sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla make a warm, slightly resinous finish that lasts all day on a sweater. It still feels very 1990s, opulent and self-assured. Calèche was the first feminine from the same house. Next to it, 24 Faubourg is warmer and more floral, with fewer aldehydes and less moss. We prefer it on fabric, where the white flowers hold on longer.
