Our take
What does Rose Pompon smell like?
Annick Goutal launched Rose Pompon in 2016, an eau de toilette by Camille Goutal and Philippine Courtière. The house has been called Goutal since 2019. The name gives away the plan: a round, perky, almost playful rose. The top mixes black currant and raspberry, with pink pepper keeping the fruit from turning to jam. The heart blends several roses (Bulgarian, Taif and centifolia) with fresh peony. The result is juicy and fizzy. It smells like a freshly picked rose rather than a dried one. The base stays light. Musk, cedar and patchouli provide a clean finish without much depth. Compared with Rose Absolue, the house’s great 1984 rose, Rose Pompon is fruitier and less solemn. It targets a younger crowd and shows it. Longevity is average, like many Goutal eaux de toilette.
When to wear it
For spring and summer, by day or on a casual date. Three sprays, topped up in the afternoon.
