Our take
What does Saharienne smell like?
Yves Saint Laurent's Le Vestiaire des Parfums appeared in October 2015 as a tribute to the designer's key garments. Saharienne sits alongside Tuxedo, Caban, Caftan and Trench. The name refers to the safari jacket Yves Saint Laurent brought into womenswear in the late 1960s. Alberto Morillas composed it. It opens clear with slightly bitter bergamot and petitgrain. Neroli settles in next, joined by a quiet jasmine sambac and clary sage that adds an aromatic edge. Picture white cotton warmed by the sun. The base stays clean with white musks, dry vetiver and a very light patchouli. Compared with Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino, which is brisker and more citrusy, Saharienne plays soft and close to the skin. Longevity is modest, so keep it for easy, low-stakes days.
When to wear it
A summer scent for a linen shirt or the walk home from the beach. It fades fast, so keep the bottle handy.
It belongs to the Citrus, Aromatic family. Saharienne is one of 35 creations by Yves Saint Laurent in our encyclopedia.
