The story of Chantal Thomass
Chantal Thomass started out in the late 1960s selling her designs in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. In 1975 she launched the label under her own name. She made her mark with lingerie meant to be seen and worn like clothing. Her black fringed bob became as recognisable as her corsets. Perfume came late, in 2002. It simply bears the designer's name. Christophe Raynaud composed it, and the bottle is ringed with a black lace garter. In 2009 Osez-Moi carried on in a sunnier key. Other variations followed at accessible prices.
An olfactory signature
Chantal Thomass perfumes are flirtatious rather than provocative. The first blends raspberry, blueberry and apple with a heart of violet, orange blossom and heliotrope. The musk, patchouli and sandalwood base stays soft. It is a sweet fruity floral and very easy to read. Osez-Moi opens on frangipani and rose with a more exotic feel. Both share a slightly retro femininity, like a Paris boudoir. People also buy them for the bottles, which are part of the fun.
Which Chantal Thomass perfume to choose?
The original Chantal Thomass suits lovers of red berries and violet. It works every day in spring or autumn. Osez-Moi is warmer and more floral, better for summer or evenings. Neither is very strong. Plan on two or three sprays. If you like the style but want more staying power, spray a scarf. The fruit lasts longer on fabric.
