Our take
What does Chantal Thomass smell like?
Lingerie designer Chantal Thomass launched her first perfume in 2002, composed by Christophe Raynaud. The opening is a fruit basket of cherry, raspberry, cranberry and apple. A tomato note and raspberry leaf add green, which keeps it from tasting like candy. The heart turns powdery. Black violet and iris lead, with heliotrope and rose beside them and orange blossom further back. The base is patchouli, sandalwood, amber and musk. It gives the scent a dark depth that suits the brand's boudoir world, and it clings to skin for hours. Thierry Mugler's Angel also sets fruit on patchouli. Chantal Thomass is less sugary than Angel and fruitier, almost tart. Where Angel feels like a fairground, this one feels closer to an orchard at the end of summer. The perfume itself is more serious than the brand's cheeky image suggests.
When to wear it
A winter evening scent, better on skin than on fabric. One or two sprays, since the patchouli grows fast.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Chantal Thomass is one of 2 creations by Chantal Thomass in our encyclopedia.
