The story of Michael Kors
Michael Kors showed his first women's collection in New York in 1981. His style was clear from the start: polished sportswear, comfortable fabrics and practical luxury for busy women. He also spent a few years designing womenswear for Céline in Paris in the late 1990s. The brand grew mainly through bags and watches sold around the world. Fragrance arrived in 2000 with Michael, an eau de parfum centred on tuberose. Estée Lauder develops the scents. In 2013 a lighter, younger collection appeared, including Sporty Citrus by Honorine Blanc. Wonderlust followed in 2016 with model Lily Aldridge in the campaign. The label now belongs to Capri Holdings.
An olfactory signature
Michael Kors fragrances go for instant pleasure. No oddities and no difficult notes, just flowers, milk and soft wood. Wonderlust sums up the approach with an almond milk accord, heliotrope and a creamy sandalwood base. It is round and comforting, almost like a cosmetic. Sporty Citrus goes the other way with sharp citrus meant for the gym or weekends. Glam Jasmine plays white flowers without weight. Longevity is decent and rarely more. People pick these for how easy they are.
Which Michael Kors perfume to choose?
Wonderlust is the best first pick. It works at the office and on nights out, especially in autumn. Sporty Citrus is the freshest of the set, for summer or after a workout, and you can spray it freely. Glam Jasmine suits fans of clean, bright jasmine in spring. None of them take risks, which makes them safe gifts. If you like Wonderlust, try Donna Karan Cashmere Mist, which is muskier. For a sweeter almond milk, Kayali goes much further into dessert territory.
