Our take
What does Wonderlust smell like?
Michael Kors launched Wonderlust in August 2016. Honorine Blanc and Aurélien Guichard of Firmenich composed it, and some sources add Alexis Grugeon. The name evokes travel while the scent feels like a soft scarf. The opening brings together almond milk, bergamot and pink pepper. Almond dominates and suggests light pastry. The heart is more interesting. Heliotrope adds its almond and modeling clay powder while carnation adds a hint of clove. Jasmine sambac stays quiet. The base sets creamy sandalwood against cashmere wood and a resinous, vanilla tinged benzoin. Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue paired heliotrope and carnation back in 1912. Wonderlust revisits that idea in a sweeter, simpler and more modern way. It has none of the melancholy. The benzoin keeps the drydown warm well into the evening. For a department store scent, it is more original than most.
When to wear it
For autumn and winter, day or evening. Three sprays, as it lasts well.
