What does Almond Milk smell like?
Almond milk smells like marzipan stirred into warm milk. A touch of cherry, a creamy texture and a slightly powdery base. It lacks the almost medicinal bite of bitter almond. Think body lotion rather than dessert. On skin it stays close and lasts well thanks to the musks around it. It is a comfort note.
Origin and production
Almond milk is not extracted. Perfumers build it from benzaldehyde, the molecule that smells of bitter almond, softened with milky lactones and heliotropin. White musks add the clean-skin feel. Sweet almond oil, by contrast, barely smells. It is a base for massage oils, not for perfume.
How perfumers use it
Almond milk pairs with white flowers, vanilla and musks. Issey Miyake A Drop d'Issey uses it in a soft, almost sheer floral. Marc Jacobs Perfect blends it with rhubarb and daffodil. Elie Saab Girl of Now pairs it with orange blossom and pistachio. Cacharel Catch Me, older, sets it on a woody oriental base.
How to wear it
Almond milk works all year, especially for everyday wear. A Drop d'Issey and Perfect can take several sprays without filling a room.
