Our take
What does Bergamote Soleil smell like?
Atelier Cologne added Bergamote Soleil to its Cologne Absolue line in 2016. The house built its name on this format, a more concentrated cologne meant to outlast a classic eau de Cologne. The opening is direct. Calabrian bergamot is made sharper by bitter orange, while ambrette adds a musky touch from the first minutes. The heart is discreet. Lavender, Guatemalan cardamom and Egyptian jasmine are hinted at more than smelled. Mostly they give the citrus some depth. The base brings Haitian vetiver, oakmoss and white amber. That is where it earns its staying power, rare for a citrus scent. Orange Sanguine, the house best seller, went for juicy orange. Bergamote Soleil is more bitter and drier, like the peel in a gin and tonic. It smells less like a fruit bowl and more like a sunny bar terrace.
When to wear it
For hot days, weekends or an air-conditioned office. Four or five sprays, on skin and clothes.
It belongs to the Citrus, Aromatic family. Bergamote Soleil is one of 2 creations by Atelier Cologne in our encyclopedia.
