Our take
What does Boucheron pour Homme smell like?
Three years after its first women's perfume, the Place Vendôme jeweller launched Boucheron pour Homme in 1991. Francis Deleamont and Jean-Pierre Bethouart composed it, and one source adds Raymond Chaillan. The bottle nods to the house's Reflet watch. The opening is classic citrus. Citron, lemon verbena and bergamot lead, with a soft orange behind them. Lavender and basil make it aromatic. Then the fragrance dresses up. Carnation adds a spicy buttonhole touch, while rose and iris bring a powdery side that is unusual in a men's scent. Jasmine and ylang-ylang stay in the background. The base follows the conventions of its time. Oakmoss and vetiver dry it out, incense and benzoin add a little smoke, and tonka rounds the edges. It is more floral than Dior's Eau Sauvage. Both share the same feel of a well-ironed shirt and a careful shave.
When to wear it
