Our take
What does Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche smell like?
The summer take on Terre d'Hermès, Eau Très Fraîche, came out in 2014. It is one of the last Terre variations Jean-Claude Ellena signed before leaving the house. This eau de toilette starts on bitter Seville orange brightened with aldehydes. Picture a twist of peel over a glass of iced water. The heart keeps the mineral idea of the original, with very light spicy notes. You smell warm stone more than pepper. The base is drier than expected, with pale woods and an oakmoss that casts a green shadow. The 2006 Terre d'Hermès stays earthier with its flint and vetiver. This version lightens everything and pushes the citrus forward. Ellena uses his usual method of few materials and lots of air. Longevity is fine for a fresh scent and no better. It feels like a postcard from the original rather than a new perfume.
