Our take
What does Lalique White smell like?
Lalique launched White in 2008, two years after Encre Noire. Christine Nagel composed it, and the white bottle is meant to suggest purity. The opening is fresh and a little unusual. Lemon leaves, Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian tamarind and Philippine elemi set the tone. Tamarind gives a small fruity sourness while elemi adds resin. The heart moves to spice, with white pepper, nutmeg and Guatemalan cardamom kept light and a violet flower to round them off. The base is clean: white cedar, white amber, moss and musks. Overall it reads like a refined cologne with extra body. Next to Encre Noire, its dark and earthy older sibling, White goes the other way. It stays bright and airy, almost soapy by the end. Expect around six hours with moderate projection, which is fair at this price.
