Our take
What does Fleur de Rocaille smell like?
Caron released Fleur de Rocaille in 1993, sixty years after Fleurs de Rocaille, the Ernest Daltroff creation whose name it almost borrows. Mind the singular, because the two perfumes have little in common. The 1933 original is a soft, hushed floral. The 1993 version is much louder. It opens on gardenia and orange blossom, a creamy white pair that takes charge from the first spray. The heart moves to rose and lily of the valley, fresher and a touch soapy. Cedar and sandalwood keep the base simple. The house does not name the perfumer. Next to Cacharel's Anaïs Anaïs, another famous white bouquet, Fleur de Rocaille smells cleaner and less powdery. Caron still sells it as an eau de parfum. The gardenia is creamy, almost buttery, and it rules the first hour.
When to wear it
A spring floral that works at the office if you stop at two sprays. On a silk scarf the gardenia lasts until evening.
It belongs to the Floral family. Fleur de Rocaille is one of 5 creations by Caron in our encyclopedia.
