Our take
What does Paris-Venise smell like?
In 2018 Chanel launched Les Eaux de Chanel with three destinations drawn from Gabrielle Chanel's travels: Deauville, Biarritz and Venice. In-house perfumer Olivier Polge composed all three. Paris-Venise is the warmest of the trio, and Chanel calls it a fresh oriental. The top is citrus: lemon, bergamot and orange, with plenty of neroli. A few red berries bring fruitiness without turning syrupy. The heart moves to iris and Grasse geranium. This is where it gets elegant, powdery and slightly cool. Cedar, an amber accord and vanilla make up the base. It smells less like a cologne than like lightly sweetened iced tea. Its sister Paris-Deauville goes green and mossy. Paris-Venise is softer and easier to wear. Projection is modest and it rarely lasts beyond a few hours. Keep the bottle in your bag on a long day.
When to wear it
A summer eau for hot days, from the office to a café terrace. Spray generously and keep the bottle close.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Paris-Venise is one of 45 creations by Chanel in our encyclopedia.
