What does N°22 smell like?
Composed by Ernest Beaux and launched in 1922, a year after N°5, N°22 is both its cousin and its counterpoint. It borrows the same sparkling, soapy aldehydic opening but steers it towards whiteness, with neroli and lily of the valley suggesting fresh flowers and light. The heart is a bouquet of white blossoms (ylang-ylang, jasmine, rose and tuberose) brighter and creamier than N°5’s. The base pairs vanilla, vetiver and iris for a soft, lightly woody powder. It evokes white silk, rice powder and a bridal bouquet. Less famous than its elder today, N°22 remains one of the house’s most beautiful floral aldehydes.
