Our take
What does Code A-List smell like?
Code A-List came out in 2018 as a limited edition. Giorgio Armani pitched it as a fresher reading of Armani Code, built on the notes of the original aftershave. The bottle borrows the cut of a tuxedo. Bergamot and green mandarin shine in the opening over a thin line of cedar. Lavender takes over in the heart, doubled by a more camphoraceous lavandin. This is where it parts ways with its older sibling: less olive blossom and more dry herbs. The base returns to the line's signature of tonka bean and guaiac wood. Tonka adds a little sugar. Guaiac brings a smoky, almost leathery edge. Compared with the 2004 Armani Code, which is darker and sweeter, A-List keeps the frame but opens the windows. The result is pleasant and safe. It left the shelves when the edition ended and now turns up mostly on the resale market.
When to wear it
A spring eau de toilette for the office or busy days. Plan on four sprays, since it does not last long.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Code A-List is one of 46 creations by Giorgio Armani in our encyclopedia.
