Our take
What does Armani Mania (femme) smell like?
Giorgio Armani launched Armani Mania for women in 2004. Dominique Ropion composed it. The opening is more original than it looks. Bay leaf is rare in a feminine scent of that era. Bay leaf and green mandarin give an aromatic freshness, while blackcurrant and pink pepper add bite. The heart opens on magnolia and lily of the valley. Iris brings a powdery texture and peony softens the whole. The base is woody and muted, with cedar, sandalwood and musk. Light vanilla and a touch of amber warm it up. Nothing is loud, yet the sandalwood holds for hours. The result stays restrained, close to the beige and grey look of the house. Next to Armani Code for women, which is sweeter, Mania is drier and woodier. These days it mostly turns up as vintage stock.
