Our take
What does Habit Rouge Dress Code smell like?
Guerlain introduced Habit Rouge Dress Code in 2015. Thierry Wasser, the house perfumer, revisited the 1965 men's oriental and nudged it towards gourmand. The bottle keeps its shape while the red box gets a honeycomb pattern. The opening stays loyal to the original. Bergamot and neroli fizz and a touch of rose softens them. The heart gets darker. Patchouli and cedar settle in with dry spices. The base is where Dress Code goes its own way. Tonka, vanilla and praline give a toasted biscuit sweetness, while vetiver and soft leather stop it from turning into candy. Next to Habit Rouge, which is powdery and formal, Dress Code feels more modern. It also projects more, as you'd expect from an eau de parfum. The two smell very close at first and the gap only shows after a few hours.
When to wear it
