Our take
What does Promenade des Anglais smell like?
In January 2016 Guerlain added Promenade des Anglais to its Les Parisiennes collection. Thierry Wasser composed this eau de toilette as a nod to the Nice seafront. The juice is tinted blue, a wink at the famous blue chairs along the promenade. The 125 ml bee bottle completes the picture. The opening is sunny, with bright bergamot and tangy grapefruit. The heart revolves around fig. It is green and milky, with an almost coconut facet. A powdery violet and a quiet iris make it more elegant than beachy. The base is soft, with light vetiver, vanilla and musk. Diptyque’s Philosykos remains the fig benchmark, woodier and leafier. Promenade des Anglais is more powdery and more recognisably Guerlain. You can smell the house style in the final vanilla. That soft, slightly powdery finish is pure Guerlain.
