Our take
What does Eau de Sisley 3 smell like?
Sisley launched three numbered eaux in 2009, and the third is the most floral. It opens on citrus: bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit and lemon. The real sparkle comes from red ginger, sharp and slightly peppery, tickling the nose from the first minute. That ginger is the reason to pick this one over its two siblings. The heart moves to osmanthus. This Chinese flower smells of dried apricot and soft leather, and the house underlines that side with touches of peach and apricot. The base stays quiet. Nothing here is meant to shout. Patchouli and vetiver are used with restraint. Benzoin, vanilla and musk round things off. Next to Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan, another osmanthus scent, it smells warmer and less watery. Its known flaw: the base fades after a few hours. By late afternoon only a soft vanilla haze remains on the skin.
