Our take
What does Concentré d'Orange Verte smell like?
In 2004 Hermès asked Jean Guichard for a stronger version of Eau d'Orange Verte, the house cologne first released in 1979. The lantern bottle turned deep green and came in an orange box. Orange opens, green and a little bitter, with lemon and mandarin. Basil arrives almost at the same time. It smells like a leaf crushed between your fingers, and that is most of the charm. Mint cools the heart further while a touch of vetiver adds something rooty. The base is more present than in the original cologne. Patchouli and cedar with a hint of amber extend the freshness without really warming it. Next to Eau d'Orange Verte, the Concentré is greener, drier and lasts a little longer. Still, don't expect a big trail. Count on four hours, sometimes less on dry skin.
