Our take
What does Boss Bottled Night smell like?
Hugo Boss released Boss Bottled Night in 2010 as an after-dark version of Boss Bottled, which dates from 1998. The bottle turns black. The opening pairs lavender with a birch note. You expect smoky leather and get something closer to a dry green leaf. Violet then takes over. It gives the heart a powdery and slightly metallic feel that was very typical of men’s scents from that period. The base plays it safe. Woody notes and a soft musk settle close to the skin with no rough edges. Compared with Boss Bottled, which is more apple-driven and spicier, Night looks darker on paper but wears lighter. That restraint suits people who want to smell good without taking over a room. It becomes a weakness once you want a proper evening scent.
When to wear it
For autumn and winter evenings when you want to stay low-key. Four sprays are fine, since it stays close to the skin.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Boss Bottled Night is one of 35 creations by Hugo Boss in our encyclopedia.
