Our take
What does Hugo Woman smell like?
Hugo Boss launched Hugo Woman in 1997, two years after the men's Hugo in its metal flask. Ursula Wandel composed it. The opening smells of a green apple just bitten into, cooled by the aquatic notes everyone wanted back then. The heart stays light. White lily and jasmine read as sheer rather than heady. In the base, a vanilla orchid softens cedar and sandalwood without weighing anything down. This is a perfume of its moment, when clean freshness ruled the counters. CK One by Calvin Klein came out three years earlier and is the obvious cousin. Hugo Woman has more fruit and a real floral touch. Watch out for the name: a 2015 Hugo Woman eau de parfum follows a completely different formula. The apple stays crisp for a good hour before the flowers take over.
When to wear it
A light summer scent that suits the office and the weekend alike. Spray generously, since it fades after about three hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Hugo Woman is one of 35 creations by Hugo Boss in our encyclopedia.
