Our take
What does Boss in Motion smell like?
Hugo Boss released Boss in Motion in 2002, with Domitille Michalon-Bertier as the perfumer. The name promises a sporty masculine built around movement. It starts on a fairly fresh note: orange, bergamot and basil. Violet leaf adds a green, slightly metallic edge. Then the mood changes. Pink pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg warm everything up. The scent turns spicy in a way the opening never hints at. The base brings musk, woods, sandalwood and vetiver. The vetiver leaves a smoky, slightly bitter trace on skin. It is a very typical amber fougere of the early 2000s, clean but already spiced. Compared with Boss Bottled, which leans more on apple and wood, In Motion is zestier at the start and more peppery in the middle. It has less roundness than its big brother, which gives it a nervier feel.
When to wear it
Wear it during the day in autumn, for weekends or a casual evening. Three sprays will do and the cinnamon handles the rest.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Fougère family. Boss in Motion is one of 35 creations by Hugo Boss in our encyclopedia.
